I grew up fishing all over Louisiana. Lafitte, where I am originally from. Leeville, Grand Isle, Cocodrie. I was on these waters long before I ever thought about making a living on them.
When I decided to get serious about chartering, I called around and landed a decking job in Cocodrie. I had fished here growing up, but learning the area by decking for experienced guides is a different education. One of the captains I worked with had 20 years on this water. Another had 50. I paid attention.
I started AB Charters a few years ago and stayed in Cocodrie. The fishing here is that consistent. On a calm morning I can be on speckled trout in 10 minutes from the dock. The redfish we find back in the marsh, in that clear protected water, develop a deep copper and golden color that you just do not see anywhere else. And in the fall, the bull reds that come through here make for some of the most memorable days I have had on the water.
I fish hard. I stay longer than I probably should. I take it personally when clients do not catch fish, which is part of why I work as hard as I do to make sure they do.
If you want to fish Cocodrie, give me a call at 985-860-6693 or book online. Come down the night before if you can. The fishing starts early and the marina is worth the stay.
